Sticker Shock

I bet by looking at the title you think I'm going to blog about the price of gas...well, let's see, I paid $4.07/gal today, and thought it was a good deal. This is a problem. But the real problem (aside from the well-known and well publicized gas issues) is groceries. I went to Fry's last night to do some grocery shopping and could not believe how much the prices had jumped in just one week! WTF? Things that were $1.99 last week are $2.79 this week! Even with coupons, I spent over $110, and when I opened my refrigerator today, I wondered what the hell I spent it on! This is a very sad state of affairs. Pretty soon, I'll be able to take the motorcycle on a grocery shopping expedition because I won't be able to afford anything more than what fits in the damned saddlebags! Argh! And, to top it all off, I received notice on Monday that my position is being eliminated and I have 30 days to find employment either within or out of the company. Isn't that sweet? I guess I should be happy that I got 30 days' notice, instead of my walking papers on-the-spot! :) I knew it was coming though. A few weeks ago, a large number of reports that I'm responsible for were discontinued. I knew that no good would become of it. Big D took a new job on Monday, after being unemployed for 6 months, but he took a paycut to get it. They also don't offer health insurance, so if my job goes, so goes our health insurance, too! So, for the past few days, I have been networking, networking, networking. My phone is burning up the minutes, but I think I have a few good leads. And I have more friends in the company than I realized. I've been getting phone calls all day today! Hopefully, I'll find something within my 30 days. And with any luck gas prices will go down, and with them, the prices of the damned groceries!

I went to McDonald's a few weeks ago and got a Quarter pounder, fries, and two cups of coffee. It cost just under 10 bucks. That was when the ridiculousness of it all hit me square in the face. It's a pretty sad state of affairs.

Sorry about your job situation. It's not a pretty site out there right now, that's for sure. My wife lost her job a little over a month ago and she is having a hard time finding anything.

Ann, that totally sucks!!! I'm glad to hear the prospects are hopeful!!

And yes, grocery prices are getting out of hand here, too! It's every where really.

Good luck!!

I am in the same boat. One day your flying high and the next your wiping shit off face. Life is a great adventure aint it! As long as you can still have sex you don't have a thing to worry about. When the doc tells me I am not fit for strenuous activity any longer...I'm heading for the grand canyon to do the Evel Knevel jump on my glide...and I'm gonna have a bonner doing it too. ha!

Sorry, sometimes my fingers engage before I think about what I'm typing.

Best wishes...things always work out somehow, just keep the shiny side up.

Mike: When the average american can't get a frickin' McDonalds meal on the cheap...we've got problems! Hope your wife finds something soon.

Paula: Thanks...I need all the luck I can get!

Dave: I couldn't agree more! And NEVER apologize for your comments on my blog! The shiny side is ALWAYS up! :)

I paid $4.59 yesterday and my total was over $90.00.

As far as the job, I am really sorry. With your personality and skills I have no doubt you will find something quickly.

I gave up my $240/month garage pass and $40+/week tanks of gass for my $144.50/month bus pass....pre-tax! I'm no longer stressed out when I get to work and I save money. I realize public trans. isn't an option for everyone, though.

I'll have to keep that in mind Dave. Though when I asked my Doctor if my heart was strong enough for sex, he said not if I join in.

Times are tough for sure. I'm still on disability. No health insurance. My wife's still trying to find a job. Bill's are piling up. I'm sick of those frigging commercials all day asking me if I have an unsettled lawsuit (I do) and if I need money for bills (I do) and if I pick up the phone right now I can get my money now. They just leave out the part about you'll get maybe 30% of the total you'd have gotten if you waited, and they get the other 70%. That's after your lawyer takes his cut. NO THANKS!!!

Yeah, things are rough. Thank God at least I can ride. It's all that keeps me sane these days.

I've still got my fingers crossed, but damn they are starting to cramp up! And in the infinite words of wisdom of the great Jean Renn, God Never Gives You More Than You Can Handle. It's an expression, not a profession of religion, you know me! LOL!
