The Other Side
I recently received the following email from one of my nieces. I was smiling the whole time I read it. I figured since we're getting so much of one side on Ms. Palin, I would air out the 'other' side. I'm wondering if people are forgetting about these things, or maybe they just don't know.
Dear Friends, compatriots, fellow-lamenters,
We are writing to you because of the fury and dread we have felt since the announcement of Sarah Palin as the Vice-Presidential candidate for the Republican Party. We believe that this terrible decision has surpassed mere partisanship, and that it is a dangerous farce on the part of a pandering and rudderless Presidential candidate that has a real possibility of becoming fact.
Perhaps like us, as American women, you share the fear of what Ms.Palin and her professed beliefs and proven record could lead to for ourselves and for our present or future daughters. To date, she is against sex education, birth control, the pro-choice platform, environmental protection, alternative energy development, freedom of speech (as mayor she wanted to ban books and attempted to fire the librarian who stood against her), gun control, the separation of church and state, and polar bears. To say nothing of her complete lack of real preparation to become the second-most-powerful person on the planet.
We want to clarify that we are not against Sarah Palin as a woman, a mother, or, for that matter, a parent of a pregnant teenager, but solely as a rash, incompetent, and all together devastating choice for Vice President. Ms. Palin's political views are in every way a slap in the face to the accomplishments that our mothers and grandmothers and great-grandmothers so fiercely fought for, and that we've so demonstrably benefited from.
First and foremost, Ms. Palin does not represent us. She does not demonstrate or uphold our interests as American women. It is presumed that the inclusion of a woman on the Republican ticket could win over women voters. We want to disagree, publicly.
Therefore, we invite you to reply here<<mailto:womensaynopalin@gmail.com > > with a short, succinct message about why you, as a woman living in this country, do not support this candidate as second-in-command for our nation. Please include your name (last initial is fine), age, and place of residence.
We will post your responses on a blog called 'Women Against Sarah Palin,' which we intend to publicize as widely as possible. Please send us your reply at your earliest convenience. The greater the volume of responses we receive, the stronger our message will be.
Thank you for your time and action.
I think that pretty much sums it up! Thanks Jen!

I love great misrepresentation :)
My favorite is that she hates polar bears
Believe the point of the article is so true. Rash and quick to fly off the handle. Same as McCain. OMG
I could absolutely shred this using facts instead of these National Enquirer headlines, but I don't want to piss you off Ann. Let me just say that if you ladies think you'll be better represented by Blabbermouth Biden than Sarah Palin, then good luck!
Palin's only running for Vice President. As a former mayor, and current Governor, her resume is already far more extensive than Saint Barack's is for the Top Job. Obama hasn't been in charge of so much as a hot dog stand in his life, but he smiles, says "change," and people are willing to turn the keys to the country over to him. That is truly scary!
The big liberal catch phrase is McCain represents W's "3rd term." Well, I hate to break the news to you kids, but Obama represents Jimmy Carter's 2nd term, which is WORSE. I can only hope there are enough of us old enough to remember that fiasco who will be voting in November!
My favorite is the mainstream media's constant references to how horrible Bush's 31% approval rating is. Naturally, they never mention the far worse approval rating of the Democrat controlled Congress. Today's 18% approval of Congress has dipped below 20% for only the fourth time in the 34 years Gallup has asked Americans to rate the job Congress is doing.
McCain/Palin take 40 States. You heard it here first. Book it.
Anytime.

A great quote and one that should be examined by democrats and independents alike:
There is plenty of room in modern thought for a pro-life feminism -- one in fact that would have far more appeal to third-world cultures where motherhood is still honored and where the Western model of the hard-driving, self-absorbed career woman is less admired. ( I beg one person to tell me they're FOR abortions...give people a chance, just give them a fuc*ing condom)
But the one fundamental precept that Democrats must stand for is independent thought and speech. When they become baying bloodhounds of rigid dogma, Democrats have committed political suicide.
The reason I sent that email around is to encourage the people I love to read and research beyond US Weekly, Oprah, the 6'oclock news, and the political heads on TV.
Happy Voting!!!
I forgot about this one...the article is from the Huffington Post, which is clearly a left-sitting (not leaning) website. The statement Palin made remains. No context necessary:

I want to thank you again, Jen for your comments. I love you too!
Joker: Don't worry about pissing me off...I just like to stir the pot! :)
Kim: I'm at a loss for words.
Anon: I wish you weren't anonymously posting comments, but I'm glad you posted anyway.
lol, Kim. My comment was going to be "ah, man, I LOVE polar bears!" Funny how the same thing stuck out to both of us. Poor guys :(
From the great state of Arizona and knowing a little bit about the McCain camp, I can honestly say that I have never heard of two more self absorbed nasty people then the McCains. Would that make a good president probably so. Too Bad though. By they way yes I do believe that abortion is and should be a choice. There are circumstances that dictate this be so. Yes I do have personal experience. Don't judge until you have been there. Go Ann. Az Independent.
It's nice to hear she's not a saint after all.
I take my usual stances re: voting.
1. You have to vote to retain your right to complain for the next 4 years.
2. Just determine which you think is the lesser of the 2 (or 3) evils and vote for that one.
This chick is getting everyone's panties in a bunch! I have to save my judgements until a later date. I am pretty much behind what is going on around me at the moment because I have my head up my ass.
I'm job searching and blogging...I have time for nothing else.
Signed: Under a rock for the past couple of months.
Ann...thanks for stirring that pot...that's what it's all about!! :)~
Always two sides to a story
I am surprised that as a biker you don't want people forcing rules on you (ie helmet laws), but yet you have a socially liberal platform which entails more government. Out of all people I thought you would be for less government. I am not for more government programs (and therefore higher taxes), I believe people can take care of themselves. Personally, I don't want people to tell me what to do or what to teach my children either.
BTW, Palin did not ban any books. She also loves the environment, hence why she choose to stay in Alaska with more nature. Last March she was on an energy committee with several other governors to create alternative plans. I trust her more than anyone in the election regarding her energy knowledge.
Welcome to America, you can say and believe what you want.
It is interesting to me that people do not want the government in their wallet or in their car with them, but they're willing to let the government into their ovaries.
Jen, I couldn't agree with you more. And I must say that, as a biker, I don't want the government on my fucking bike with me, either, thank you very much! Or in my ovaries, or my car, or my wallet...etc.
I love you Jenny! :)
Wow, now I am even more confused than ever. There is someone that would be worse that Obama/Biden? Depends on the definition of worse I guess. I say we throw them all out and start over in the remaining 50 or so days.
Good for her!
I hate polar bears too!!
I thought this post was fantastic.....until i read the comments left by people and realized that alot of them are defending McCain/Palin. That has ruined my day!
Obama/Biden 2008!!!!!!
McCain on the AIG bailout:
LAUER: So if we get to the point middle of the week as we heard in that report where AIG might have to file for bankruptcy, they're on their own?
McCAIN: Well...quote, "on their own"...we have to - we cannot have the taxpayers bail out AIG or anybody else...this is something we're gonna have to work through -- there's too much corruption, there's too much access, we can fix it, I believe in America - we can have a 9/11 commission such as we had after 9/11, 'cause this is a huge crisis and we can come up with fixes and we can make sure that every American has a safer future and that is to make them know that their bank deposits are safe and insured.
RIGHT-O! Hope your annuities are safe, kids. There's a shitstorm brewing. The major finance houses had to find a way to make money after 9/11, so they packaged up mortgages and traded their indebtedness on the markets! What happens when the "no-money down and interest only" set can't afford their increased monthly debt? Those securities are worthless and cannot be valued. Who insured those securities b/c they were too risky for the major banks to solely take on? AIG was a major player. What do we have now? Better start trading in your gold. "Reganomics" doesn't work so well when the tax cuts provided to the corps aren't great enough to offset the losses due to this once in a century debaucle.
There's nothing to trickle-down to the middle-class, or any class. I think I see a mosquito ditch being dug in the federal property across the street....
Ok, I'm done now.
Ah yes, let's make McCain look like the goat here.
Naturally, the "no money down and interest only" set just happen to be the same stupid deadbeats that habitually vote for Democrats. Why? Because they are always looking to get something they haven't earned in life - like a house they can't afford for instance. I'm sure Bush and McCain stood there and held guns to the heads of these dopes and forced them to sign the papers which clearly stated terms which they KNEW would become untenable should interest rates rise.
Gee, they rose. Surprise! Oh, and I'm sure the rebuttal will be that it was all Bush and the Republicans who sowed the seeds for this debacle. None of these laws or regulations would have any ties to the Congress, which if you paid attention in school has authority over financial and budgetary matters, through the enumerated power to "lay and collect taxes, duties, imposts and excises, to pay the debts and provide for the common defense and general welfare of the United States."
The Congress is controlled by DEMOCRATS, namely the Wicked Witch of the West, aka Nancy Pelosi, and the ultimate milquetoast, Harry Reid, who should be tried and executed for Treason against the United States for his public statements of cowardice during a time of War.
Now, just for shits and giggles, lets say you don't buy any of that. Enter our hero and savior, Saint Barack Obama. Just how do you propose that he will wave a magic wand and fix all of these financial woes? He will undoubtedly use his vast experience to solve the issues, correct??
He can certainly draw on the successful business he started from nothing and built up in the private sector - except he didn't start one.
Maybe he can go with his experience running someone else's business as a manager? Nope. He didn't do that either.
How about his experience as a corporate executive, handling budgetary and staffing issues involving millions of dollars and hundreds of people? Nope, he never held such a position.
Low-level corporate manager or supervisor? NO.
Assistant to the Assistant Manager of a Movie Theater? NO.
Ran his own Hot Dog stand outside Comisky Park in Chicago? NO.
In short, before you stab McCain in the throat, tell us all how Obama is going to do better, when his experience does not equate to being the hall monitor of a one-room school house?
Oh, and by the way, it's REAGANOMICS, not REGANOMICS, and the policies of the former President have no bearing whatsoever on what is going on now in this country.
OK, I'm done now.
Ah, it's not personal or anything.
I don't have to stab McCain in the throat b/c he accomplishes that on his own.
I don't believe I ever mentioned the words "savior" and "Obama" in the same sentence. I think a more appropriate summation of my thoughts on him would be "candidate I can stomach the most".
Thank you for correcting my spelling though, I feel much better now.
I don't have any statistics on the voting habits of those who took out mortgages without reading the fine print, but I think they were chasing the American Dream or something like that (and I don't think it's a partisan dream!).
Yea, Congress did create the Federal Reserve almost a hundred years ago. It's members are appointed by the President. Its members have autonomy and do not act according to the will of Congress.
Just for fun, the Federal Reserve Act is based on legislation named after a Rebulican leader (in 1913)-Aldrich.
I don't really know which laws and budgetary matters you're talking about.
See you at the polls!
Uh oh, Ann. Now you've done it!
The kids are fighting again.
Dean: You are cracking me up! Yes, the kids are fighting again. :)
I'm actually in mediation with them via email. :)
No it's not personal at all, but I do LOVE to argue, especially when I'm convinced I'm right. As a plumber, I think I'm doing rather well versus an attorney, wouldn't you say?
If a radical bigot whose resume would not qualify him for a job managing a small local bank is easier for you to stomach, you go girl! For me, the guy who proved his character under conditions that neither you or I could possibly imagine seems a bit more qualified. I'm not thrilled about him, but his patriotism is unquestionable. Perhaps you should google "William Ayers" or "The Weather Underground." Barack kicked off his campaign in Billy's living room. Report back on your stomach.
In terms of the Aldrich-Vreeland Act which established the National Monetary Commission in 1908, the Federal Reserve Act of 1913 was based on legislation from two DEMOCRATS, and was known as the Glass-Owen bill at the time. It was that legislation which created the Federal Reserve Board. Yes, its members are appointed by the President, but must be APPROVED by the SENATE.
The budgetary laws and matters I'm talking about would be those passed by Congress regarding regulation of the Fed, which is indeed subject to Congressional authority and oversight. In fact, SIX such bills were passed between 1978 and 1999 alone, the last being the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act of 1999, which opened up competition between investment banks, and securities and insurance companies.
Final note in retrospect regarding "Reaganomics." Inflation rate in 1979: Double-Digits.
Inflation rate in 1987: 1%.
Ronald Reagan making Ted Kennedy look like the bloated drunken jackass he is for 8 straight years: PRICELESS!
See you at the polls!
Yes, but I don't look at it like that. My dad has a 10th grade education and has been in a machinist's union his entire life. I have the best debates with him.
I don't live in an ivory tower waxing prophetic about my view on the state of the world all day. I bust my ass at work to keep the job that 1000 other attorneys are trying to get b/c my market is glutted. A plumber is more useful than an atty anyday (with less debt, to boot). Hope you're doing well and hopefully Ann will post something else controversial soon!
As far as working with Ayers, an extremist...sounds like Obama utilized diplomacy instead of bombing the fuck out of Ayers' house.
I'll actually be at the polls as an election monitor...making sure people who have outstanding parking tickets get the chance to vote :)
Jen,
The Obama-Ayers comment was really very funny. Touche`.
I have to say I appreciate your zeal and intelligence. I've had some fiery debates about this stuff and you're the only one who has presented counter-points that you can actually back up. Most liberals respond with the same, tired, second-hand phrases and slogans that all but define the Left. "No more blood for oil," "Bush lied, people died," "weapons of mass deception," and probably the worst of all (thank you Moveon.org), "General Betray-us."
We may not agree on everything, but at least you responded to some serious salvos from me with legitimate points, and I respect that. It's very refreshing. I can tell that you can see some of my points, and I in turn can see some of yours.
And, yes, let's hope Ann comes up with something else we can go back and forth about!
