Riding Today?

It s going to be a beautiful day here in sunny Arizona. The weather man is calling for sunny skies and a high of 75° today. Perfect riding weather. BACA is holding a child ride today, so it really is the perfect day. Instead of taking pics during this day, I will give you a preview of how our day will go: There will be none of this... Due to this... Unfortunately, the bike is down. Really down this time. There will be no MacGuyvering out of this one. I don't know the technical/mechanical names of everything, but I know clutch basket. The thing with magnets on it has no more magnets on it, and that's bad. Bikie no run without magnets. Addtionally, I know this isn't a simple $30 fix. This is a $350 fix, which unfortunately is not in the budget any time soon. The really bad part is, this is Big D's only form of transportation. So hopefully, people will need a lot of work done on their bikes, and they will bring them here for him to fix, and pay him generously. I'm hoping he can find someone with this part he needs who is willing to trade...we've got lots to trade. But for now, we're stuck in the cage. :( Doesn't she look sad and lonely up there on that lift?

Man,seems like when it rains, it pours in your part of the world.
First your bike, now his..what's next? maybe he can just find some used parts on the net

QB: Very sad.

Baron's: The $350 price is the used parts price. The new price is astronomical.

Not riding today (sunny, 26 degrees), but tomorrow is the Polar Bear Plunge for Special Olympics at Rehobeth Beach. Three of our chapter members will be plunging into the ocean. They are crazy!!! The weatherman is actually calling for 47 degrees and fair skies, so Jay is going to ride. I'm feeling alittle under the weather, so I'll be caging it with a couple of other members.

Sorry to hear about the bike, that sucks. Hope you find someone with parts to trade soon.

Big D's a hurtin I'll bet. You too. Had a 72 Shovel damn AMF. I had that bike 11&1/2 years. I'd bet I put 6 maybe 7 stators and regulators on that bike. Not cheap. Well hope a job or two comes in and D is back on the road.

I paid $300 for my first in 1976. It was a VW Beetle. (Used)
What happened to our money?

That sucks! You've probably already done this, but if not, try craigslist. Maybe BigD can find someone to hook up with for a parts trade. That's a lot of dough to come up with at once. I just dropped nearly 5 large just to keep my wife's old minivan (now my minivan - but don't tell anyone cuz I'm embarrassed) going, so I feel your pain. Arrrrghhh!

Good luck; I hope BigD can get back on the road soon.

I checked craigslist for the Monterey bay area – nothing. There is one other place I can check tomorrow. Any chance you can post year and part #’s or descriptions of what you need?

Mrs. RC: They are crazy! We hope so, too. Thanks.

WW: Yeah, he's hurtin, alright.

Baron's: That's what I'm saying!!! WTF?!

Joker: Big D drove a minivan when I 'stole' his 68 Chevy. :)

Willy D: Thank you. It is the clutch basket with the built-in magnets for the stater for 85-90 1200 Sporty. At HD: $487.00, on ebay (in Pennsylvania): $350 and the guy has one left...but we have no money. And this one has the steel band over the magnets to keep this from happening again. If you find anything, send me an email. Thanks for looking for us.

OK. That’s one clutch shell, rotor and stator for a ’85 to’90 1200. I’ll check in the mourning and let you know yes or no. Will be around 10-11 AM CA time.

Willy D: Came into a kind of a windfall tonight thanks to a good friend. Ordered the part on ebay. Thanks for your help. Will update when the bike is up and running.

Are you as think as I drunk you are??! :)

That sucks! I hate bike breakdowns! They are so frustrating!

I love the picture of the two of you riding together. It reminds me of a David Mann picture.

Are you as think as I drunk you are??! :) What?

Glad to hear the good news. Think I’ll still take a ride and check with my source out of town. It’ll be good to know what this “pack-rat” has in his bike parts stash for future reference.

Ann said...

Dean: Yeah it does suck. Thanks...I love that pic of us too.

Willy D: LMAO! I might have been a little tipsy when I added that comment!

It's always good to know what the local 'pack-rat' has lying around. We do!

Ms. Ann: Holy broken bike parts Batman! How much for a stator you say? It's been over ten years since I had to put one in my bike but I sure don't remember it costing that much. Good to hear you found a cheaper price and the bike is on the mend.

fasthair: Yep...it's expensive! I thought Big D was having a stroke when we went to HD to see about the part.

Now, as soon as the part comes in, Big D will have the bike up and running in no time. :)

I've been here already, but I guess I forgot to post. I hope your up and running by now. I'm like all the rest, break down are bad mojo!

BTW... have you ever considered using this pic of you and Big D on your header? I think it's awesome!

Ann said...

LadyR: Bad mojo indeed! The part is on the way, though!

I loved your suggestion. So the change has been made! Thanks!

I love the pic of you two on the bike!
Sucks about the part. I would never have guessed that much for a used part! Hope you both are on the road soon!

I'm glad you were able to get the part, sorry you missed out riding.
